RAIC

Reliable/Redundant Array of Inexpensive Computers

An Askemos system is - to a technican - much like a RAID mirror. Just using clouds instead of disks.

While RAID protects data stored at the physical disk (or 'block') level, RAIC protects ongoing processes during computation. Hence RAIC and RAID differ architecturally only in terms of the level of abstraction at which they are implemented.

An intermediate protection level, which protects at file system level is sometimes called RAIN. The latter is a special case RAIC sans logic beyond simple consistency guaranties in the file system.
